- General Summary of the Program:
Under the Maryland Statewide Electronics Program, manufacturers of covered electronic devices (CEDs) are required to establish a takeback program for the collection and recycling, refurbishing, or reuse of a CED labeled with the name of the manufacturer or manufacturer's brand label. Manufacturers must offer collection and recycling services for free to the returner. Manufacturers can choose to implement any type of takeback program including implementing a mailback program, contracting with a recycler, or utilizing permanent collection sites. However, manufacturers do have the option of paying a higher annual registration fee ($5,000) for not implementing a takeback program versus a lower registration fee ($500) if they do implement a takeback program.
