  • General Summary of the Program:
The Michigan Electronic Waste Takeback Program requires manufacturers of covered electronic devices (or CEDs, which includes covered computers and covered video display devices) to register with the Michigan Department of Natural Resoruces and Environment (DNRE) and implement a takeback program for Michigan consumers that is convenient and free. Manufacturers must also make information about their takeback program available on their website, which the Michigan DNRE will link to from its own website.

Manufacturers of covered computers are required to implement a computer takeback program for their own brand of covered computers. Manufacturers of covered video display devices (VDDs) are required to implement a video display device takeback program for any brand or type of covered VDD. Covered VDD manufacturers also have a voluntary goal of collecting 60% by weight of the TVs they sold in Michigan the previous fiscal year (Oct. 1 to Sept. 30 of the following year). Both types of manufacturers are able to work with registered recyclers as part of their takeback program.
